Demonstration for a greener, worthy and fairer Mallorca

The Island Council of Mallorca is building a new highway on the Llucmajor-Campos highway. An institution governed by a coalition of leftists – parties that historically have opposed the freeways developed by the right – has collected the project that left the PP during the previous legislature on the table and now, having made a few modifications, it executes it. This has been carried out with the excuse of trying to reduce the accident on this road, but this has fallen markedly after the actions carried out in 2015.

It has been months since the Antiautopista Platform is warning Majorcan citizens not only the impact this new infrastructure will have, but also the prolongation of an untenable, polluting mobility model that has the days counted. A public debate on these issues was requested from the policy makers of this new mega-infrastructure, but this has not occurred. We have also demanded that the project be paralyzed pending the next approval of the Sectoral Master Plan for Mobility, which is manifestly contrary to new road developments and bets on public transport. But, incomprehensibly, they have not pushed the brake but the accelerator. Finally, we launched a call for a more green, dignified and fair Mallorca to which some 160 associations and more than 4,000 people have adhered. Even so, the Consell de Mallorca has disowned it and has begun the execution of the works.

For all this, we announce the start of the mobilizations. We call all the people against the highway, those who want to begin to take steps towards a model of mobility based on public transport, to leave on Sunday, December 23, through the Llucmajor-Campos highway. We will concentrate at 10:30 a.m. in the square of Can Pere Ignasi de Campos to depart at 11:00 a.m. It is scheduled to arrive at 2:00 p.m. the walk of Jaume III of Llucmajor, where there will be parliaments, glosators and food for the walkers.

Highway NEVER!
